A note from the compiler:

Lesser titles in ( ) are usually used as courtesy titles by the heir but come without a place in the House of Lords. Life dates and numbering (ie. 10th earl) are as accurate as I could make them, but in many cases authorities disagree. Dates between January 1 and March 24 may be off by a year. In the sixteenth century, the new year began on March 25. Most, but not all scholars adjust for modern dating but sometimes it is difficult to tell which is being used. Although this material has been proofread several times, there may also be occasional typographical errors, especially with regard to dates. This list should not be used as your only source of information. If there is a different or more specific date given in the entry for an individual peeress, that will be the more accurate one.
